Meta's Muse AI Agent and Third-Party AI Tools Coming Natively to Windows
Microsoft announced at its Surface event that Meta's Muse personal AI agent, Perplexity tools, and an OpenClaw gateway will be natively available on Windows. The integration leverages Microsoft's MXC SDK to allow agents and on-device tools to run efficiently and securely. This announcement highlights a growing shift toward OS-level integration of autonomous AI agents and local on-device execution. By natively supporting third-party agents, Windows positions itself as a central hub for agentic workflows without requiring total reliance on cloud processing. Meta's Muse agent will utilize Microsoft's MXC (Microsoft eXecution Containers) SDK to ensure policy-driven sandboxing for executing agentic code. Additionally, Perplexity's laptop tools will run complex AI tasks on-device without using cloud credits, alongside a new setup guide in Windows for configuring AI agents.
## BACKGROUND
Meta introduced Muse as a personal AI agent built to execute long-running, multi-step tasks on behalf of users rather than serving as a basic conversational chatbot. To safely contain model outputs and plugins created by such agents, Microsoft developed MXC, a policy-driven containment SDK for isolating untrusted code across operating systems.
