Meta Reportedly Developing Camera-Free Smart Glasses Codename 'Luna' to Address Privacy Scrutiny
Meta reportedly plans to release a camera-free smart glasses model codenamed "Luna" this fall to address mounting privacy and surveillance concerns surrounding wearable cameras. The device is expected to be announced at the Meta Connect developer conference and could begin shipping in October. By eliminating the camera while maintaining robust audio hardware, Meta aims to make AI wearables acceptable in environments where recording devices are banned or socially frowned upon. This pivot allows Meta to drive adoption of its Meta AI chatbot and Muse agent without triggering public backlash over covert recording. The "Luna" glasses will feature six built-in microphones, speakers similar to existing models, and a quick-access side button to trigger Meta AI with one touch. The device relies entirely on voice commands and audio interaction to interface with Meta AI and its consumer agent Muse.
