Meta Releases Muse Glimmer, an Open-Weights Agentic Model for Local Hardware
Meta has released Muse Glimmer, a 30-billion parameter (30B) open-weights AI model designed to run locally on consumer-grade hardware like a single RTX 3090 GPU. Muse Glimmer is a distilled version of Meta's Muse Spark 1.2 model, optimized for efficiency, tool use, and long tasks. This release advances the feasibility of "personal superintelligence" by allowing users to run powerful agentic AI models locally without relying on cloud infrastructure. It also fuels the ongoing debate over whether advanced AI technologies should be openly accessible or kept proprietary. Muse Glimmer is released under the Apache 2.0 license, making it highly customizable for developers, and is specifically tuned for failure recovery and agentic workflows. In contrast, its parent model, Muse Spark, was initially developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs with a focus on multimodal reasoning.
