Meta Announces Muse, a Personal AI Agent for Everyday Tasks

Meta has introduced Muse, a personal AI agent designed to assist users with daily tasks, creative workflows, document generation, and web research. The agent operates across mobile and web platforms while integrating directly with Meta's ecosystem and third-party services like Spotify and OpenTable. Muse represents a major push by Meta to move beyond conversational chatbots toward proactive, action-oriented digital assistants integrated into daily user workflows. This move intensifies competition among tech giants vying to control the primary interface for personal productivity and consumer AI interaction. Muse offers functional automation such as managing reservations, monitoring prices, sending emails, and creating documents across iOS, Android, and web interfaces. Alongside the agent rollout, Meta released Muse Glimmer, an open-weight ~30-billion parameter multimodal model under the Apache 2.0 license intended for local agentic workflows.

## BACKGROUND

Personal AI agents differ from standard large language models by taking autonomous actions on a user's behalf through external APIs and app integrations. In 2015, Facebook launched a similar human-assisted personal agent called 'M' inside Messenger, which was eventually shut down in 2018 before modern generative AI architectures made scalable deployment feasible.
