Mercedes-Benz to Launch New Long-Wheelbase GLE SUV Featuring Momenta R7 Tech
Mercedes-Benz announced that its newly redesigned long-wheelbase GLE SUV, manufactured at its Shunyi plant in China, will officially launch on September 16. The vehicle features ByteDance's Doubao AI assistant, an Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (AR HUD), and will integrate Momenta's R7 world model for advanced autonomous driving. The launch highlights how global luxury automakers are increasingly embedding localized Chinese AI models and autonomous driving software to remain competitive in China. It also demonstrates the commercial adoption of reinforcement learning world models for end-to-end urban navigation. The China-exclusive SUV features an extended wheelbase of 3,115 mm, a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system delivering 560 Nm of torque, and AIRMATIC air suspension allowing up to 271 mm ground clearance. Its smart driving suite supports full 'parking space-to-parking space' navigation assistance and automated parking.
## BACKGROUND
Momenta's R7 is an autonomous driving system based on a reinforcement learning world model that relies on real-world driving data pre-training and high-fidelity virtual simulation to navigate complex scenarios. Modern vehicle head-up display (HUD) technology projects key driving metrics and navigation prompts directly onto the windshield within the driver's visual field.
