MediaTek Announces Day-0 Support for Alibaba's Qwen 3.8 Model on Mobile and Auto Chips

MediaTek has announced immediate "Day-0" adaptation of Alibaba's newly open-sourced Qwen 3.8-27B model for its Dimensity Auto Cockpit Platform C-X1 and flagship mobile chips. This allows compatible smartphones and smart vehicles to run the latest version of Alibaba's large language model locally. This partnership highlights the accelerating trend of deploying large language models directly on edge hardware, reducing latency and dependency on cloud servers. It will enable more responsive, secure, and intuitive AI-driven voice assistants and features in both cars and mobile devices. The Qwen 3.8-27B is a native multimodal dense model that supports a 262K native context window, which can be extended to 1M tokens using YaRN technology. It also introduces a reasoning_effort feature, allowing the model to adjust its thinking depth based on task complexity to optimize resource consumption.

## BACKGROUND

MediaTek's Dimensity Auto Cockpit Platform C-X1 is a flagship 3nm automotive SoC designed with NVIDIA GPU technology to power smart in-car systems. YaRN (Yet another RoPE extensioN) is an efficient method used to extend the context window of transformer-based language models without requiring massive retraining data.
