Marvell Announces Bravera SC6 PCIe Gen6 SSD Controller for AI Inference Storage
Marvell has unveiled the Bravera SC6 (MV-SF1410) PCIe Gen6 SSD controller at FMS 2026, designed to accelerate AI inference storage workloads. The new controller is scheduled to begin sampling in the fourth quarter of 2026. By doubling the performance of the previous generation, the Bravera SC6 enables efficient offloading of KV cache from expensive HBM to SSDs, optimizing infrastructure efficiency for large language models. The NVMe 2.2-compliant controller features two 6-core Arm Cortex-R82 clusters, a DDR5 interface, and 16 NAND channels supporting up to 3600MT/s. Additionally, Marvell showcased its Photonic Fabric solution, which enables sharing up to 32TB of hot KV cache across racks.
## BACKGROUND
During Large Language Model (LLM) inference, the KV (Key-Value) cache stores intermediate attention states to avoid recalculating past tokens, but it requires massive memory capacity. PCIe Gen6 is the next-generation high-speed interconnect standard that doubles the bandwidth of PCIe Gen5, which is crucial for rapidly transferring this cached data between GPUs and storage.
