Major European Automakers Adopt NVIDIA's Hyperion for Autonomous Driving

Major European automakers and mobility companies, including Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Volvo alongside Bolt and Lucid, have announced plans to adopt NVIDIA's Hyperion computing platform to advance their autonomous driving and robotaxi deployments. The collaboration integrates NVIDIA's hardware architecture with software systems like Alpamayo and the Halos safety framework to target L3 and L4 autonomous operations. This development marks a significant commercial validation of NVIDIA's ecosystem in Europe, uniting traditional automotive giants and mobility platforms under a standardized autonomous driving architecture. By providing flexible hardware and software combinations alongside rigorous safety validation frameworks, NVIDIA is helping accelerate the path toward commercial-scale urban robotaxi and autonomous freight deployment. As part of the initiative, ride-hailing platform Bolt plans to deploy at least 25,000 L4-capable Lucid vehicles equipped with Hyperion, starting with data collection in Madrid by 2027 followed by expansions into Germany. Additionally, NVIDIA introduced the Halos SAFE framework to provide standardized, traceable safety verification data to satisfy regulatory requirements across different markets.

## BACKGROUND

NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion is a production-ready reference architecture and development platform designed for robotaxis and Level 4 autonomous vehicles, offering unified compute and sensor configurations. Alpamayo is NVIDIA's advanced vision-language-action AI model designed to help autonomous systems reason through complex scenarios, while L3 and L4 classifications represent varying degrees of conditional and high driving automation where the vehicle handles safety-critical tasks under specific conditions.
