Kannan Tech Teases 26g Frameless AI Smart Glasses Planned for 2027
Kannan Tech has previewed an upcoming frameless AI smart glass with an integrated display, targeted for an official release in Spring 2027. Co-developed with Zhejiang Tongda Optics, the device weighs just 26 grams with 2.3 mm temples to closely resemble standard prescription glasses while ensuring mass-production feasibility. The announcement underscores the push toward miniaturization in consumer AI wearables, attempting to match the weight and aesthetics of conventional eyewear. However, the distant 2027 launch timeline highlights the steep engineering hurdles in balancing display optics, power management, and structural integrity in lightweight frames. The glasses feature built-in audio speakers, prescription lens compatibility, and a PPG module for continuous heart rate monitoring. Additionally, they use Bluetooth PAN technology to pair directly with cloud AI capabilities without needing a dedicated companion mobile application.
## BACKGROUND
Photoplethysmography (PPG) is an optical sensing technique widely used in smartwatches and fitness trackers to measure heart rate by detecting blood volume changes near the skin surface. Bluetooth Personal Area Network (PAN) is a networking profile that allows short-range devices to share IP connectivity over Bluetooth, enabling low-power peripherals to access the internet.
