JD Logistics to Procure 3M Robots and Build Global Maintenance Network
JD Logistics announced a five-year plan to procure 3 million robots, 1 million autonomous vehicles, and 100,000 drones to achieve full logistics automation. Concurrently, the company is building a global robot repair network covering over 100 countries while retraining its existing delivery workforce into maintenance engineers. This initiative marks one of the largest enterprise deployments of autonomous systems in logistics, accelerating the industry's shift toward full automation. By creating 100,000 service engineer jobs for its front-line staff, JD provides a practical framework for mitigating AI-driven job displacement. Under its 'Nirvana Plan,' JD partnered with 120 vocational institutions to retrain its 700,000 frontline couriers, with the first certified cohort already transitioning into active maintenance roles. Furthermore, JD Retail plans to invest 10 billion RMB by 2028 to establish itself as a primary retail channel for commercial robotics.
