iRobot Unveils Roomba Duo Dual-Robot Cleaning System
iRobot announced the Roomba Duo at IFA 2026, featuring a main vacuum-mop robot for open floors working alongside a compact secondary robot designed for tight spaces. The two units communicate in real time and coordinate their cleaning tasks using AI while sharing a unified AutoWash maintenance dock. This parent-child architecture addresses a long-standing trade-off between heavy-duty cleaning hardware for open areas and low-profile maneuverability for low-clearance furniture and corners. It represents an innovative hardware approach in consumer robotics, introducing multi-agent AI coordination into home cleaning. The main unit is equipped with a 60mm PowerSpin Max roller mop exerting 46N of downward force, while the 83.5mm-tall secondary unit can cross 35mm thresholds and extend its mop outward by 31mm. Both units use ClearView Pro dual-line LiDAR and PrecisionVision AI, with the main unit adding an onboard AI camera.
## BACKGROUND
LiDAR mapping technologies like iRobot's ClearView Pro help autonomous vacuums measure distances using laser light to construct precise spatial layouts of a home. Meanwhile, iRobot's PrecisionVision AI uses computer vision to detect and avoid dynamic household obstacles like cables, shoes, and pet waste.
