Insta360 has launched an AI voice assistant for its GO Ultra pocket camera, featuring real-time translation, photo-based Q&A, and voice Q&A. The assistant integrates Alibaba's Qwen model in mainland China and Google's Gemini in other global regions. This integration highlights the growing trend of embedding large language models (LLMs) and multimodal AI into consumer hardware, transforming action cameras into interactive personal assistants. It showcases how hardware manufacturers navigate regional service availability by deploying different AI backends. The feature utilizes a hybrid architecture where voiceprint recognition and intent detection are processed on-device (edge AI), while complex tasks like translation and Q&A are handled in the cloud. Users can activate the assistant by saying "Hey Kira" or long-pressing the shutter button when the camera is powered off.
