HPE Secures $1.2B Order from Vultr for AMD Helios AI Racks

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has secured its first order for AMD "Helios" AI rack systems, winning a $1.2 billion contract from private cloud provider Vultr. The system incorporates AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs and integrated networking components. This deal marks a major commercial milestone for AMD's rack-scale AI hardware ecosystem as it competes against Nvidia in hyper-scale cloud data centers. It also highlights HPE's strategic integration of its newly acquired Juniper Networks technology into enterprise AI infrastructure. Each HPE-built AMD Helios rack integrates six Juniper Networking QFX5252 scalable Ethernet switch trays. These switches interconnect all 72 Instinct MI455X GPU accelerators using standards-based, high-bandwidth, low-latency Ethernet.

## BACKGROUND

The AMD Helios AI rack is a rack-scale infrastructure solution designed around open-standard blueprints contributed to the Open Compute Project (OCP). Powered by AMD's 5th Gen CDNA architecture and Instinct MI400-series GPUs, Helios aims to deliver production-ready performance optimized for demanding AI training and inference workloads.
