Horizon Robotics Aims to Overtake NVIDIA in China's Autonomous Driving Chip Market
Horizon Robotics founder and CEO Yu Kai announced that the company aims to surpass NVIDIA in China's high-level autonomous driving chip market next year. Currently holding the top market share in China's assisted driving sector, Horizon is ranked second behind NVIDIA in high-performance automotive AI processing. This goal highlights the intense competition global chipmakers like NVIDIA face from domestic rivals in China's rapidly growing smart vehicle ecosystem. Achieving this milestone would further strengthen China's localized semiconductor supply chain for next-generation autonomous vehicles. Horizon recently announced that cumulative mass production of its Journey automotive chip series surpassed 15 million units, powering over 8 million vehicles across more than 40 brands. The company currently offers high-compute processors delivering up to 560 TOPS of AI performance to compete directly with NVIDIA's high-end automotive platforms.

Autonomous driving systems rely on specialized AI processors measured in TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) to process complex real-time sensor data from cameras and LiDAR. While NVIDIA has long dominated the global market for high-compute automotive SoCs (System-on-Chip), domestic Chinese suppliers like Horizon Robotics have rapidly scaled up production by partnering with leading Chinese automakers.
