GTA 6 Revamped Wanted System Emphasizes Stealth and Police AI Tracking
Rockstar North co-head Rob Nelson revealed that GTA 6 will feature a revamped wanted system where police AI tracks players using their clothing, appearance, vehicles, and surveillance footage. This marks a shift from previous games where police NPCs simply spawned to chase the player. This system elevates the open-world crime gameplay into an information-based stealth game, requiring players to strategically manage their disguises and movements. It showcases a more sophisticated implementation of game AI and environmental interaction in modern game design. The game's HUD will display specific icons under the wanted stars, such as a hanger for clothing recognition and a camera for CCTV footage. Players can evade police by changing clothes from their vehicle's trunk, altering their hairstyle, or splitting up the two main protagonists.
## BACKGROUND
In previous Grand Theft Auto titles, the wanted system relied on a simple search radius where players could escape by staying out of the police's line of sight until their wanted level flashed and disappeared. A Heads-Up Display (HUD) is a user interface in video games that visually conveys crucial information to the player, such as health, mini-maps, and in this case, wanted status indicators.
