Google to Invest €13 Billion in Finland for AI Data Center Expansion
Google plans to invest at least €13 billion over the next two years to build three new data centers in Finland and expand its existing Hamina facility. This represents the tech giant's largest single investment in Europe to date as it boosts its AI infrastructure. The investment underscores the aggressive expansion of global AI computing power as Alphabet pushes its annual capital expenditure targets up to $205 billion. It also provides a significant boost to Finland's economy, expected to support over 37,000 construction jobs and 7,000 long-term positions. Google chose Finland for its cold climate, 96% carbon-free power grid, and closed-loop water systems, allowing server heat to be recycled for local residential heating. Key components include a 22-year power deal with Fortum for 50% of the Loviisa nuclear plant's capacity starting in 2030 and a 94 MW battery storage system in Kajaani.
