Security firm Malwarebytes warned that public shared chat links from Anthropic's Claude are being indexed by Google Search, potentially exposing users' sensitive information. This issue stems from Claude's "Share chats" feature, which generates publicly accessible URLs that search engine crawlers can scan. This highlights a significant privacy risk for users who share AI conversations without realizing that public links can be crawled and indexed by search engines. It serves as a crucial reminder to avoid inputting personally identifiable information, credentials, or proprietary corporate data into LLMs. The indexing issue is not unique to Claude, as similar exposures have previously affected shared chats from xAI's Grok and Meta AI. To prevent indexing, platforms must implement directives like the "noindex" meta tag, but the safest user mitigation is to refrain from generating public share links for sensitive chats.
