Google Partners with Constellation in 3.6GW Clean Energy and Nuclear Deal
Google has announced a 3.59GW strategic energy deal with Constellation to power its expanding AI and cloud data centers. The partnership secures 890MW of expanded capacity by funding upgrades across 11 nuclear power units, alongside 2.7GW of flexible clean power capacity. The agreement highlights the massive clean energy demands of next-generation AI infrastructure and the tech industry's growing reliance on nuclear power for 24/7 carbon-free electricity. Additionally, Constellation will collaborate with Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise to build an "Energy AI" blueprint aimed at optimizing grid dispatch and protecting critical energy assets. The 890MW nuclear expansion is set to come online between 2028 and 2032 under a 20-year agreement, creating approximately 7,200 construction jobs. Both companies also agreed on a framework to jointly evaluate new opportunities in clean power generation, energy storage, and demand response technologies across the U.S.
## BACKGROUND
Nuclear uprating allows existing nuclear power plants to produce more electricity by modernizing equipment and control systems without building new reactors. Meanwhile, demand response technologies allow large power consumers to adjust their electricity use based on grid conditions and price signals to ensure energy grid stability.
