## BACKGROUND
Jeff Dean joined Google in 1999 as its 30th employee and co-designed foundational systems like MapReduce, BigTable, and TensorFlow. Closed-loop scientific discovery is an emerging AI paradigm where machine learning models autonomously generate hypotheses, design experiments, run them (often via robotic labs), and update their models based on the results without human intervention.
