Goldman Sachs Forecasts 273GW Global Data Center Capacity by 2030

Goldman Sachs has revised its 2030 global data center capacity forecast from 217GW to 273GW, projecting about $8.5 trillion in capital investments over the next five years. The firm also raised its U.S. capacity prediction for 2030 from 125GW to 152GW. This massive infrastructure growth highlights the unprecedented hardware and energy demands driven by artificial intelligence workloads and GPU scaling. The booming capital expenditure will profoundly impact global energy markets, supply chains, and technology industries. The global capacity is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of about 21% from an estimated 103GW in 2025, with the U.S. accounting for roughly 60% of the newly added capacity. The rapid expansion of Neocloud providers to meet surging GPU demands is cited as a major driver for the upward revision.

## BACKGROUND

Neoclouds are specialized cloud computing providers that emerged to deliver high-performance GPU infrastructure tailored for training and operating artificial intelligence models. Data center capacity is typically measured in terms of power capacity (gigawatts of IT load) because power supply and thermal dissipation represent the primary bottlenecks for modern computing infrastructure.
