GigaAI Releases Maker L01 General-Purpose Bipedal Humanoid Robot

Chinese physical AI startup GigaAI has launched the Maker L01, a general-purpose bipedal humanoid robot featuring 31 joint motors and full-stack openness for research and development. The robot is capable of running, jumping, and performing flips, with a maximum speed of 4 m/s. Backed by Huawei's Hubble investment, GigaAI's release highlights the rapid development of embodied AI and world models, offering an open-source hardware platform to accelerate robotics research. The Maker L01 weighs 42kg, features a 518Wh hot-swappable battery, and is designed to work out-of-the-box for scientific research and competition development. GigaAI's software stack includes the GigaWorld platform and the GigaBrain embodied foundation model.

## BACKGROUND

Embodied AI refers to artificial intelligence systems embedded in physical bodies that interact with the real world through sensors and actuators. World models are AI frameworks that simulate environmental dynamics and predict future states, helping robots plan and act without constant trial and error.
