German Military Tests 30 Sovereign AI Tools for Battlefield Decision-Making

The German military is evaluating 30 AI tools, primarily from domestic firms and French defense vendor ChapsVision, to speed up tactical decision-making on the battlefield. Vice Admiral Thomas Daum stated that a prototype system is expected by Q2 2027, with full operational deployment targeted for 2028. This move highlights Europe's push for strategic autonomy and data sovereignty in military tech by deliberately bypassing American solutions like Palantir's Maven Smart System. It reflects how sensor and drone data saturation in modern warfare is forcing militaries to rely on AI processing for tactical survival. Rather than adopting Palantir's Maven platform currently used by NATO and US forces, Germany is intentionally choosing European software to avoid technological dependency on the US.
