General Motors Upgrades OnStar Service With AI Assistant for Vehicle Control

General Motors is upgrading its OnStar connected vehicle service with a new AI assistant capable of direct vehicle control, diagnostics, and natural language interaction. The feature will debut via OTA update in 2027 Cadillac Lyriq models before expanding across Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC vehicles. This update transforms OnStar from a traditional emergency-response platform into an advanced, comprehensive vehicle management tool. It significantly enhances the in-car user experience by allowing drivers to interact with their vehicles using conversational commands instead of manual lookups. The AI assistant allows drivers to perform actions like adjusting climate control, turning on interior lights, managing charging port doors, and planning electric vehicle charging routes using daily language. Additionally, GM plans to launch a unified mobile app in 2027 that integrates these connected services and replaces older standalone apps.

## BACKGROUND
