Gen Z Job Seekers Fear Their Resumes Look Too Much Like AI

As generative AI tools flood the job market, Gen Z applicants are increasingly worried that their resumes sound too generic and fail automated initial screening systems. A recent survey by Greenhouse found that 81% of job seekers face rejection after submitting resumes without speaking to HR, while employers struggle to differentiate candidates among identical, AI-polished applications. This trend highlights a systemic breakdown in modern recruitment, where AI-generated applications meet AI-driven screening tools, ultimately creating a frustrating loop for both candidates and employers. It signals an urgent need for recruitment methods to evolve beyond static, keyword-based resume filters to better evaluate authentic human skills. According to a Greenhouse survey of over 1,100 job seekers in the UK and Ireland, 42% of candidates have participated in AI interviews over the past 12 months. Furthermore, 97% of respondents expressed a desire to showcase aspects of themselves that cannot fit into a standard resume.
