FuriosaAI Secures 7,000-Chip Order for Swedish Heterogeneous AI Data Center
South Korean AI chip startup FuriosaAI has secured an order to supply 7,000 of its RNGD accelerators for a new 15MW AI data center in Stockholm, Sweden. The project, developed by Velox, is scheduled to bring its first 2MW of capacity online in early 2027. This commercial milestone highlights the growing adoption of alternative AI ASICs alongside mainstream NVIDIA and AMD GPUs in heterogeneous data centers. It demonstrates that startups can compete in the high-performance AI inference market by offering cost-effective, specialized hardware. The RNGD accelerators will operate alongside an equivalent number of NVIDIA and AMD GPUs, managed by I/ONX HPC's Symphony SixtyFour platform to handle workload scheduling. The RNGD chip is built on a Tensor Contraction Processor architecture, delivering 512 TFLOPS of performance at a power envelope of 180W.
