First CMG World Robot Mount Tai Climbing Competition Launched

China Media Group (CMG) has announced the launch of the first World Robot Mount Tai Climbing Competition, partnering with local authorities in Shandong. The competition challenges robots to navigate the steep, rugged stone steps of Mount Tai from the Hongmen to the Zhongtianmen route. This competition serves as a real-world, extreme testing ground for embodied AI and legged robots, pushing the boundaries of their mobility and environmental adaptation. It shifts robotic testing from controlled laboratory environments to highly unpredictable, natural terrains. The chosen route from Hongmen to Zhongtianmen is a classic hiking path that typically takes a human about 2.5 hours to complete. The competition will evaluate the robots' perception, decision-making, operational execution, and reliable operation under complex outdoor conditions.

## BACKGROUND

Embodied AI refers to artificial intelligence systems integrated into physical bodies, like robots, allowing them to interact with and learn from the physical world. Legged robots, such as quadrupeds or bipeds, require advanced control techniques and planning algorithms to maintain balance and navigate uneven terrains.
