Enterprise SSD Prices Projected to Rise in Q4 2026 Driven by AI Inference Demand
TrendForce reports that enterprise SSD (eSSD) order volumes and prices are expected to surpass Q3 peaks and continue rising through Q4 2026. This sustained demand is driven by aggressive procurement from North American cloud providers expanding AI inference and agentic AI workloads. The primary growth driver for enterprise storage is shifting from AI model training to real-world inference deployment. This transition is accelerating the mainstream adoption of high-density QLC NAND flash in data centers, significantly impacting enterprise storage architecture and hardware pricing. Quad-Level Cell (QLC) eSSDs are rapidly gaining market share due to their high storage density, serving as cost-effective carriers for vector databases handling unstructured data and offloading KV Caches during AI inference. Consequently, QLC is projected to account for a fast-growing proportion of total enterprise SSD capacity shipped.
## BACKGROUND
AI inference refers to running live data through a trained model to generate outputs. In Large Language Models (LLMs), KV (Key-Value) caching preserves past attention states to speed up token generation, but long-context prompts can exhaust expensive GPU memory, requiring KV cache offloading to fast enterprise SSDs. Similarly, vector databases store high-dimensional vector embeddings to enable fast semantic search and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) for AI systems.
