Dynatron Confirms AMD Zen 6 EPYC "Verano" Processors Will Use Socket SB1
Cooling manufacturer Dynatron listed a new active cooler supporting Socket SB1, confirming details about AMD's upcoming Zen 6 EPYC 9006 LP "Verano" server processors. Designed for AI accelerator head node applications, the "Verano" platform is expected to launch around 2027. The leak provides an early glimpse into AMD's future AI data center roadmap, emphasizing specialized host CPUs tailored for managing AI workloads. By combining low-power SOCAMM2 memory with fast interconnects, AMD aims to optimize energy efficiency and performance in dense AI compute clusters. The EPYC "Verano" processor line will offer up to 72 CPU cores, clock speeds up to 5GHz, support for LPDDR5X SOCAMM2 memory modules, and 112Gbps xGMI high-bandwidth interconnects. Dynatron's SB1-4U-ACTIVE cooler is engineered for 4U server chassis and features an embedded vapor chamber with multiple heat pipes.
## BACKGROUND
AI compute clusters often rely on head node CPUs to manage system resources, feed data to accelerators like GPUs, and orchestrate cluster interconnects. To boost bandwidth without prohibitive power consumption, hardware makers are adopting SOCAMM2 (Small Outline Compression Attached Memory Module 2) for low-power LPDDR5X RAM, alongside high-speed fabrics like AMD's xGMI (External Global Memory Interconnect).
