Discover AI: A Learning Guide With 51 Hands-On Labs

An offline interactive learning application called Discover AI has been released, featuring 51 hands-on labs and lessons designed to teach AI mechanics from the ground up. The application runs entirely offline without requiring user accounts or data telemetry. This tool offers developers and learners a practical, self-contained way to understand complex AI architectures without relying on cloud services or paid APIs. It bridges the gap between abstract theoretical concepts and real code mechanics through interactive simulations. The 51 labs are divided into 6 groups, covering foundational topics like neurons and gradient descent alongside modern architectures such as attention mechanisms, RAG, agents, fine-tuning, and quantization. Notably, some labs feature live execution, such as running a 1.37M-parameter transformer directly inside the app or training a tiny model in real time using sliders.

## BACKGROUND

Gradient descent is an iterative optimization algorithm used in machine learning to minimize a model's error by adjusting its parameters along the steepest slope. Quantization maps continuous or high-precision numerical values to a smaller set, enabling machine learning models to use less memory and run faster.
