Czech Republic Approves Tesla Supervised FSD for Public Roads
The Czech Republic has officially approved Tesla's Supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) system for public road use, becoming the seventh EU nation to grant local authorization. Tesla will soon begin rolling out its localized FSD v14 software update to Czech vehicle owners equipped with Hardware 4 (AI4). The authorization highlights accelerating momentum for Tesla's driver-assist technology in Europe ahead of a broader EU-wide regulatory vote planned for later in the fall. By leveraging national exemption mechanisms established under the Dutch vehicle authority (RDW) framework, Tesla is expanding its European market footprint state by state. Despite its commercial name, FSD remains a SAE Level 2 system that requires active driver oversight and hands-on readiness, enforced by cabin camera monitoring. While seven EU countries have granted local approval, nations like France and Sweden oppose EU-wide adoption due to safety concerns regarding FSD's Speed Offset feature exceeding speed limits.

Under SAE International standards, Level 2 driver assistance automates steering, acceleration, and braking, but leaves full operational and legal responsibility with the human driver.
