Cursor Launches Localized 'Start' Plan in India
AI coding assistant developer Cursor has launched a localized subscription plan called "Cursor Start" in India, priced at ₹649 per month. This new tier is approximately one-third of the standard global pricing of $20 per month. India has become Cursor's third-largest global market, making regional pricing crucial for capturing its rapidly growing developer base. This move aligns with a broader industry trend where AI providers offer cheaper, localized tiers to secure market share in emerging tech hubs. The "Cursor Start" plan provides Indian subscribers with generous access to Grok 4.5 and Composer, along with cloud agents, the iOS app, and workflow integrations. Cursor reported that its Indian customer base tripled over the past year, with the country hosting more power users than any other market.
## BACKGROUND
Cursor is an AI-assisted integrated development environment (IDE) built as a fork of Visual Studio Code (VS Code) by Anysphere. It allows software developers to write, edit, and debug code using natural language instructions. As competition intensifies among AI coding tools, companies are increasingly targeting India due to its massive pool of software engineers.
