Constellation Secures 20-Year Amazon Nuclear Power Deal, Nearing $1B Alphabet Agreement

Constellation Energy has signed a 20-year nuclear power supply agreement to provide Amazon with 690MW of electricity from its Calvert Cliffs plant in Maryland. Additionally, reports indicate Alphabet is finalizing a multi-year nuclear power deal with Constellation valued at least $1 billion. Hyperscale technology companies are increasingly turning to nuclear power to secure reliable, zero-carbon, 24/7 energy for their expanding AI compute workloads and data centers. This demand is driving billions of dollars into legacy nuclear energy infrastructure to increase generation capacity. The Amazon agreement will trigger over $3 billion in infrastructure investment in Maryland, adding 190MW of new capacity between 2030 and 2032 while supporting Amazon's operations across the 13-state PJM electricity market. Alphabet's prospective multi-year deal is expected to be formally announced in the coming days.

## BACKGROUND

Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) are long-term contracts that allow corporate energy consumers to buy electricity directly from power generators at fixed or predictable rates. The PJM Interconnection is the largest regional transmission organization in the US, operating a wholesale electricity grid serving 13 states where many tech data centers are located.
