Codex Canvas Integrates AI Image Editing with Infinite Canvas Workflows

A new "Canvas" tool integrated with Codex allows users to perform AI-driven image generation, annotation, and targeted editing on an infinite canvas. It enables the AI to interpret user-drawn arrows, annotations, and position markers to make precise, localized modifications to images. By combining visual canvas annotations with AI prompts, this tool simplifies complex image editing workflows that traditionally required manual selection tools in software like Photoshop. It represents a shift toward more intuitive, spatial, and conversation-native interfaces for generative AI design. The tool is built by integrating a local infinite canvas plugin called Cowart, which is based on tldraw, into Codex. This setup allows the AI to process both text prompts and visual spatial cues simultaneously for precise image manipulation.

## BACKGROUND

Traditional AI image generators often struggle with precise local edits, as text prompts alone cannot easily specify exact coordinates or shapes. Infinite canvas tools, like tldraw, provide a visual workspace where users can sketch and organize ideas. Integrating these two technologies allows users to guide AI image editors using natural visual cues like drawing a circle around an area to modify.
