Chinese Banks Expand "Compute Token Loans" to Fund AI Infrastructure and GPU Clusters

Chinese banking institutions are expanding specialized financial products nationwide, including "Compute Token Loans," to support AI enterprises and infrastructure development. Following initial launches in cities like Guangzhou and Beijing, banks are offering credit lines based on compute token usage, service contracts, and compute vouchers to fund data center construction and GPU server cluster purchases. Light-asset AI startups often struggle to secure traditional bank loans due to a lack of physical collateral, making specialized financial instruments critical for sustained AI development. By converting operational metrics—such as LLM token generation and compute consumption—into credit qualifications, Chinese institutions are lowering capital barriers for AI model training and GPU expansion. Under financial programs like Guangdong's "Token Loan" and Beijing's "Yiqi Token Loan," credit evaluation shifts away from fixed-asset collateral to metrics like token consumption, compute service receivables, and token commission volume. Additionally, mechanisms such as "credit enhancement via compute vouchers" allow base credit lines of up to 10 million yuan to be expanded into fixed-asset loans reaching up to 50 million yuan.
