China to Issue AI-Themed Commemorative Gold and Silver Coins

The People's Bank of China is set to release a series of three "Sci-Tech Innovation Future (Artificial Intelligence)" commemorative coins on September 4, 2026. The collection consists of one square gold coin and two round silver coins, all of which are official legal tender. This release highlights China's strategic emphasis on artificial intelligence and technological innovation by featuring these themes on official national currency. It serves as a cultural milestone reflecting the integration of advanced technology into mainstream national symbols. The 5-gram square gold coin features designs of a microchip, brain-like circuits, and binary numbers, with a limited mintage of 10,000 pieces. The two 15-gram silver coins depict human profiles, circuit patterns, and AI symbols, with a maximum mintage of 20,000 pieces each.
