China Telecom Incubates Embodied AI Startup Gamma Robotics

China Telecom's AI Research Institute (TeleAI) officially registered 'Gamma Robotics' in Shanghai on October 20, marking its first market-oriented embodied AI spin-off. The newly established company will focus on self-evolving humanoid robots and full-body models. This initiative bridges telecommunications infrastructure with embodied AI by leveraging China Telecom's network, computing power, and TeleAI's AI Flow architecture to drive commercial applications. It highlights how major telecom operators are strategically expanding into advanced robotics and next-generation smart ecosystems. Gamma Robotics is strategically backed by a multi-layered capital framework involving China Telecom and local government funds, with Prof. Xuelong Li serving as scientific advisor and Dr. Chenjia Bai as CEO. The company will co-establish a humanoid robot laboratory with TeleAI to focus on continuous learning, coordination, and cloud-edge collaboration.

## BACKGROUND

Embodied AI integrates artificial intelligence algorithms with physical robotic bodies, allowing systems to perceive, reason, and interact dynamically with the real world. AI Flow (智传网) is an innovative cross-disciplinary framework developed by TeleAI that merges AI, communications, and networking to enable efficient end-edge-cloud intelligence transmission.
