China's NEV Retail Penetration Hits Record 65.1% in July as Smart Tech Sales Surge
China's Ministry of Commerce reported that the retail penetration rate of new energy passenger vehicles reached a record high of 65.1% in July. Additionally, sales of smart consumer technologies saw significant growth, with embodied robots surging by 95.1% and exoskeleton boosters increasing by 39.5%. This milestone highlights the rapid transition of the Chinese automotive market toward electrification and showcases growing consumer demand for advanced AI-driven hardware. The surge in embodied AI and exoskeleton sales reflects a broader trend of integrating physical robotics into daily consumer life. The growth was driven in part by consumer trade-in policies promoting green and smart products. Other smart home and lifestyle devices also grew, with action cameras up 24.7% and robotic vacuums up 19.4%.
## BACKGROUND
Embodied AI refers to artificial intelligence systems embedded within physical bodies, like humanoid robots, that can perceive and interact with their physical environments. Exoskeleton boosters are wearable robotic devices designed to assist human mobility, often used for outdoor activities or to aid those with limited movement.
