China's Hundred Flowers Awards Introduces AIGC Category for the First Time
The 38th Hundred Flowers Awards has established an AIGC (AI-Generated Content) category for the first time in its 64-year history, holding its honor ceremony on August 8 in Beijing. The newly introduced unit received 2,038 submissions, with six works ultimately winning top honors across categories like animation, visual effects, and directing. This milestone reflects the mainstream film industry's growing acceptance and formal recognition of generative AI as a legitimate tool in cinema. It aligns with a broader trend in China, where major events like the Shanghai and Beijing International Film Festivals have also introduced dedicated AI categories. Out of the 2,038 submissions received within a month, 30 works entered the final review, and 24 received nomination honors. Award-winning titles included "Yi Meng" for Best Animation, "Lai Shi Lu" for Best Visual Effects, and "Whale Song" for Best Technical Work.

This technology lowers the barrier to entry for creators, enabling solo filmmakers or small teams to produce high-quality cinematic content without the need for massive budgets, physical sets, or large crews.
