China's First Long-Form AIGC Drama Series 'Post-Journey to the West' Begins Broadcasting

China's first long-form AIGC (AI-Generated Content) drama series, "Post-Journey to the West," officially began broadcasting on Mango TV and Hunan TV on August 31. The series is the first to adopt a "simultaneous review and broadcast" model, allowing it to be produced, reviewed, and aired concurrently. This release marks a significant milestone in media production, demonstrating that generative AI technology has matured enough to produce full-length television content for mainstream networks. The new regulatory and production model could significantly shorten content creation cycles and allow creators to dynamically adjust plots based on viewer feedback. The first season of the series consists of 30 episodes, each running for 40 minutes, starting with a 5-episode "Huaguoshan Chapter." It is adapted from a classic mythological novel of the same name from the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, focusing on the journey of a new generation of characters like Sun Xiaosheng.

## BACKGROUND

AIGC, or Artificial Intelligence Generated Content, utilizes generative AI models to automatically produce text, images, audio, and video. While AI video generation tools have rapidly advanced to create short clips from text prompts, producing a full-length television series requires integrating these tools into a complex, long-form production pipeline.
