China's First AI-Generated Theatrical Film 'Sanxingdui: Future Past' Premieres
China's first AI-generated full-length theatrical film, 'Sanxingdui: Future Past,' has officially premiered in theaters with technical support from Shengshu Technology's Vidu. The 100-minute animated film grossed over 125,000 RMB on its first day. This release marks a practical milestone for generative AI in commercial cinema as the first approved full-length AI feature film in China. It demonstrates how traditional film studio workflows and generative AI video tools can be combined to produce a theatrical release. The 100-minute film was produced over two years using the 'Boka Film Cloud Studio' platform, generating more than 1.2 million base images. All characters are original digital creations without digital replications of real actors, and the production team followed 17 specialized film crew roles.
## BACKGROUND
Sanxingdui is a major Chinese archaeological site known for its unique Bronze Age artifacts, which often inspire creative and science fiction works in China. Vidu is an advanced AI video generation model developed by Shengshu Technology and Tsinghua University, utilizing a Diffusion and Transformer combined architecture to generate high-definition video content.
