China Reports 5.254 Million 5G Base Stations and Advanced Telecom Growth
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that the country has built 5.254 million 5G base stations, reached 33.4 million 10G PON ports, and achieved an intelligent computing scale of 2,592 EFLOPS by the first three quarters of 2026. These official figures highlight the rapid expansion of China's digital infrastructure, providing a robust network and computing foundation to support the accelerated integration of artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing. The report also notes that the country has established over 26,000 industrial 5G private networks and 1,260 5G factories, while actively conducting technical trials for upcoming 6G standards.
## BACKGROUND
10G PON is a passive optical network technology capable of delivering shared internet access rates up to 10 Gbit/s over fiber optic cables. EFLOPS measures floating-point operations per second, where one EFLOPS equals one quintillion calculations per second, serving as a vital metric for evaluating high-performance and intelligent computing capabilities.
