China Releases Intelligent Chemical Engineering Model 3.0 Pro with Over 400 Specialized Agents
The Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (CAS), alongside iFlytek and Alibaba Cloud, released the Intelligent Chemical Engineering Model 3.0 Pro. The update transitions the platform from a standard Q&A model into an autonomous task execution system powered by over 400 specialized chemical agents and tools. The model overcomes the limitations of general-purpose LLMs in managing multi-scale physical processes and rigid industrial engineering constraints. With over 300 enterprise and research users already adopting the system, it establishes a foundational framework for automated chemical R&D from the laboratory directly to the factory floor. Model 3.0 Pro achieved text and multimodal Q&A accuracy of 81.96% and 80.75%, representing 20.2% and 31.4% relative performance gains over version 3.0. Built on a four-tier architecture (LLM, Agents, Tools, Scenarios), it was pre-trained on tens of billions of domain-specific chemical tokens and fine-tuned on billions of high-quality Q&A data points.
## BACKGROUND
Chemical engineering involves complex physical-chemical dynamics, multi-modal data types, and strict industrial execution constraints that generic LLMs often misinterpret. Domain-specific AI for Science systems resolve this by integrating deep technical domain pre-training with agentic workflows that orchestrate specialized calculations, simulation tools, and physical data verification.
