China Progresses on Customized 'Mazu' AI Weather Early Warning Platform for Egypt
The China Meteorological Administration has achieved phased progress in developing an Egypt-customized version of its 'Mazu' AI weather early warning platform. The team has completed the data inventory review and integrated Egypt's administrative divisions alongside its geographic information system (GIS) data. This initiative demonstrates China's expansion of AI-driven meteorological technology to international partners, helping countries like Egypt better prepare for extreme weather events. It highlights how specialized AI weather systems can be customized to support specific regional economic sectors, such as aviation safety and cultural tourism. The tailored system features specialized modules for aviation weather—such as airport monitoring and target forecasting—and tourism features, including sandstorm alerts, stargazing suitability, and sunrise/sunset timings. Next steps will focus on developing dedicated AI meteorological models, specifically an AI sandstorm prediction module.

Officially launched at the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, 'Mazu' (MAZU) stands for Multi-hazard Alert Zero-gap Universal and serves as an AI-powered urban disaster early warning agent developed by China. Designed to share meteorological disaster-reduction technology globally, the platform has already been deployed for trials across 35 countries and regions.
