China Premieres First Full-Length AIGC TV Drama 'Post-Journey to the West'

Hunan Satellite TV and Mango TV premiered 'Post-Journey to the West', China's first full-length TV drama produced using AI-generated content (AIGC). The show achieved top real-time broadcast ratings among provincial satellite channels during its premiere time slot. This launch marks a major commercial milestone for generative AI in mainstream television, proving that AIGC can scale beyond short web clips into traditional broadcast media formats. It opens up new possibilities for media production by drastically shortening production timelines while maintaining audience engagement. Produced by Mango TV's AIGC Content Innovation Center and Bojing Culture, the 30-episode series features 40-minute episodes adapted from a classic Ming/Qing fantasy novel. It is also the first series under new broadcast regulations to adopt a dynamic 'simultaneous production, review, and broadcast' pipeline, enabling real-time story adjustments based on censorship feedback and viewer response.

## BACKGROUND

Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) leverages deep learning models to generate media formats including images and video. While AI video generation tools have rapidly advanced, producing multi-episode, long-form content with character and visual consistency has traditionally presented significant technical hurdles.
