China Mobile Announces Over 100 Billion Yuan Computing Power Investment for Next Year
At the 2026 Mobile Network Conference, China Mobile announced plans to invest over 100 billion yuan in computing power next year and continuously double its intelligent computing capacity over the next two years. This massive infrastructure push highlights the accelerating demand for AI data centers and large-scale computing clusters driven by major telecommunications operators. China Mobile is building multiple gigawatt-level computing campuses—with three started this year and two more planned next year—bringing the total to seven, alongside plans to build multiple ultra-large-scale computing clusters.
## BACKGROUND
Intelligent computing (智算) refers to the specialized computing infrastructure, hardware, and platforms designed to support artificial intelligence and large language models. A gigawatt-level computing campus represents a massive data center facility requiring gigawatts of power to operate thousands of high-performance GPUs simultaneously for AI training.
