China Launches Nationwide AI Literacy Training and Certification for Teachers
China's Ministry of Education has launched a nationwide initiative to train all teachers in AI literacy, alongside upgrading the National Smart Education Platform with a dedicated AI section. The program demonstrates practical applications of AI across the entire teaching lifecycle, including lesson preparation, classroom instruction, evaluation, and school governance. This policy initiative marks one of the largest systemic pushes to integrate AI tools directly into public education workflows and teacher certification standards. It reflects China's broader strategic goal to establish deep integration between artificial intelligence and education across all academic levels by 2030. The initiative integrates AI learning resources, intelligent tools, and professional development communities on the national platform to help teachers move from learning AI to creating with AI. Additionally, AI knowledge and application will be formally added to teacher qualification exams and curriculum standards for normal universities.
## BACKGROUND
China previously issued teacher digital literacy standards to evaluate and improve educators' technological skills across consciousness, knowledge, application, and social responsibility. The National Smart Education Platform serves as the country's central hub for public educational resources, supporting both student learning and teacher development nationwide.
