Chengdu Launches "AI+" Action Plan to Accelerate L3+ Autonomous Driving and Embodied AI
The Chengdu Municipal Government has released the "Chengdu Action Plan for Deepening the Implementation of 'Artificial Intelligence +'" to accelerate the R&D and mass production of L3+ autonomous vehicles. The plan also outlines strategic support for embodied AI, smart grids, and the integration of computing power with electrical power. This policy signals strong regional government backing for next-generation AI technologies, positioning Chengdu as a key hub for autonomous driving and robotics. By integrating computing power with green energy grids, the initiative addresses the high energy demands of AI development while promoting industrial modernization. The plan focuses on developing key hardware and software components such as smart cockpits, operating systems, electronic skins, and dexterous hands. Additionally, it encourages the creation of specialized energy models and the establishment of training grounds and verification platforms for embodied AI.
## BACKGROUND
L3 autonomous driving represents conditional automation where the vehicle handles driving tasks under specific conditions, but a human driver must be ready to intervene. Embodied AI refers to intelligent systems that interact with the physical world through a physical body, such as humanoid robots, rather than just processing data in a digital space.
