Changan Automobile Predicts Autonomous Driving Industry Consolidation by 2028
Changan Automobile announced that China's autonomous driving industry will complete its first major shakeout by 2028, leaving only five to six main players, including Changan and Huawei's subsidiary Yinwang. The automaker also detailed its 60-billion-RMB 'Tianshu Linghang' end-to-end smart driving system, debuting on the Qiyuan Q06 SUV. The forecast highlights severe consolidation ahead in China's automotive market, where executives predict nearly 100 brands will be eliminated by 2030. Additionally, Changan's plans to license its high-compute autonomous platform to rival automakers marks a strategic shift toward broad commercial deployment. The 'Tianshu Linghang' platform utilizes a single-stage end-to-end architecture trained on over 20 million high-quality driving data segments, offering computing performance up to 1,000 TOPS with standard LiDAR sensors. Backed by a 7,500-person R&D team, the system supports dual-chip redundant hardware designed to enable L3 autonomous capabilities expected to launch at scale as early as next year.
## BACKGROUND
In autonomous driving, single-stage end-to-end architectures process sensor data directly into driving controls via a single neural network, bypassing traditional split perception and planning steps. Navigation Cruise Assist (NCA) enables vehicles to perform automated point-to-point navigation along highways and city streets. Yinwang is a joint venture company established by Huawei in early 2024 to consolidate its automotive solutions and partner with major Chinese automakers.
