Changan Automobile Outlines Strategic Vision for Embodied AI and Automotive Robotics
At the 22nd TEDA International Forum, Tan Huan, Chief Expert of Changan Automobile and GM of Changan Tianshu Intelligent Robotics, outlined a strategic vision to integrate embodied AI across vehicle manufacturing, sales, and in-car applications. The ultimate goal is to build self-learning 'vehicle robots' and eventually use robots to manufacture other robots. This roadmap highlights how major automakers are attempting to pivot beyond traditional vehicle manufacturing into robotics and embodied AI companies to redefine future mobility. It aligns with the broader industry trend of deploying intelligent automation across both smart factory operations and consumer-facing physical services. Changan's implementation strategy starts with componentizing vehicle cabin elements—such as cockpits, center consoles, and armrests—before expanding into mobility ecosystem tasks like charging, inspection, and logistics. This follows the official establishment of Changan Tianshu Intelligent Robotics Co. in April 2024 to lead the automaker's robotics initiatives.
## BACKGROUND
Embodied AI refers to artificial intelligence systems embodied in physical structures—such as humanoid robots or autonomous machines—that interact directly with their physical environment. Automakers are increasingly exploring embodied AI to advance factory automation, improve dealership operations, and transform vehicles into fully integrated smart devices.
