ByteDance Secures $29.6 Billion Syndicated Loan to Boost AI CapEx

ByteDance is reportedly finalizing a $29.6 billion syndicated loan after strong bank demand pushed the deal beyond its initial $20 billion target. The company plans to use the capital to support general operations and potentially double its CapEx to $70 billion for AI infrastructure and data center expansion. This massive financing reflects the escalating global tech race to build out massive AI compute capacity and data infrastructure. Doubling its CapEx signals ByteDance's commitment to competing directly with top global technology rivals in generative AI and cloud capabilities. Once completed, the deal will be Asia's second-largest USD syndicated loan of the year, trailing only SoftBank's $40 billion bridge financing in March. The agreement is pending final credit allocation confirmations among underwriting banks.

## BACKGROUND

A syndicated loan is a financing structure where a group of lenders jointly provides funds for a single borrower to spread risk on massive capital commitments. Capital expenditure (CapEx) in the AI industry primarily funds hardware procurement, such as high-performance GPUs, servers, and data center facilities.
